The Supernatural Story of Encik Walek and the Legend of the Great Cannon
Indonesia is one of the very rich countries folklore or legend.
Uncommon, legend and folklore in the homeland has a unique story like a fantasy film.
One interesting folklore is in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri), precisely in the Leafy Stone Village, Singkep District, Lingga District, Kepri.
There is a firecracker next to the main road to the Leafy Stone Beach, in the form of an upright cannon, stuck in the ground with the tip facing the sky.
Half the cannon section was stuck in the ground, while half the muzzle of the cannon faced upright, towards the sky.
The name of the firecracker is Upright Cannon.
The firecracker is now given a fence around it and has been designated as an Inevitably Cultural Heritage (WBTB) by the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI).
Name Upright Cannon also embedded next to the location of the firecracker.
There is a permanent signboard that reads, “Benda Cultural Heritage Upright Cannon Leafy Stone Village Singkep District Lingga Regency”.
People who were walking around Batu Berdaun Beach often stopped by to see the historic location that holds the supernatural story.

The super-strength female figure behind folklore Upright Cannon is Cik Walek or Encik Walek.
There are four versions of the Encik Walek legend that are spread among the community Leafy Stone Village.
In ancient times, there lived a husband and wife in Leafy Stone Village.
The husband is named Cik Noah and the wife is named Cik Walek.
Cik Walek ate a fungus or mushroom that had magical properties.
After eating the magic mushroom, Cik Walek became very strong, he had superpowers that did not match human strength in general.
Cik Walek and her husband live in a house with a yard full of cannons.
One day, Cik Walek looked at the cannon in his yard, holding one of the cannons there.
Suddenly, Cik Noah’s husband was joking.
“ Why just look, lift it up if you can, ” Cik Noah said to his wife.
Candaan Cik Noah reaped a misunderstanding and made him and the wife fight.
When he heard Cik Noah’s joke, Cik Walek felt disparaged and angry.
Filled with anger, Cik Walek then raised the cannon and threw it until the cannon was stuck into the ground.
“ So, her husband joked, and said why it was only seen, lift it up if you could. The joke was taken seriously by Cik Walek, because he considered the husband to underestimate him. Thus, Cik Walek was full of emotion and raised (cannon) to stick the cannon to the ground, ” explained Lazuardi, Lingga’s Historical and Cultural Enthusiastic.
That story is what the local community believes as origin Upright Cannon or the legend behind Upright Cannon
According to Lazuardi’s statement, Lingga History and Culture, there is another version folklore behind Upright Cannon.
Legend Upright Cannon this version says that Cik Walek is a Princess.
In ancient times, there lived a Princess of the King named Encek Walek.
One day, the Princess was involved in a great fight with a famous Prince.
It is said that Princess Encek Walek does have power outside of reason.
He lifted and stuck the cannon into the ground.
After the cannon was stuck to the ground, Princess Encek Walek challenged the Prince to be able to fight and continue the fight.
The condition is that the Prince must be able to pull the cannon from the ground.
However, apparently, the Prince could not pull out the cannon that was plugged in by Princess Encek Walek.
This made the Prince lose to Princess Encek Walek.
The prince also accepted his defeat, then decided to leave.
Legend of the Upright Cannon Version #3
Story of Encik Walek’s Sacred and Encik Noah Her Husband
Folklore Upright Cannon this version is a legend contained in the official page of the Cultural Service (Disbud) Riau Islands.
In ancient times, near the Leafy Stone Beach, there lived a husband and wife. Her husband named Encik Noah and his wife named Encik Walek.
One day, Encik Walek had a fever and did not eat.
In the midst of a fever, Encik Walek wants to eat the diving fruit whose tree is not far from his house.
Being sick, Encik Walek asked her husband, Encik Noah, to pick ripe fruit.
Although he has been repeatedly asked to take fruit, Encik Noah ignored Encik Walek’s request.
Because Encik Noah ignored his request, Encik Walek, who was having a fever, rose in blood.
Encik Walik was very angry, then he went down to the ground to show his strength.
She was about to lift the cannon on the beach, so that her husband was aware that taking the fruit to dive was an easy job compared to lifting cannons.
Encik Walek wants to show that she is not an indiscriminate woman who should be underestimated.
He who was still sick with fever tried to walk towards the cannon, then the fortified cannon was like a fortifying body, then he angrily stuck the cannon to the earth, until the base of the cannon set in the ground.
Cannons that are plugged into the ground become erect with snouts facing the sky.
Seeing his wife angry to lift the cannon, Encik Noah was surprised not to get proverbial.
He just found out that his wife is a strong woman, not a careless person.
Encik Noah remembered Encik Walek of the Mepar Rich, a group of strong people and cherries.
Noah’s encik was ashamed of his wife. To close the shame, he also slapped the trunk of a tree to dive.
Because Encik Noah was a cherry, a tree of diving that was slapped with a great vibrate, its branches and branches folded like being hit by a fierce typhoon.
All leaves and fruit miscarry to the earth.
After the incident, Encik Walek and her husband, Encik Noah, lived a harmonious and peaceful life.
Then they moved to Lalang Island which is south of Singkep Island.
On Lalang Island, Encik Walek and Encik Noah have offspring.
Until now, there can still be found descendants of Encik Walek and Encik Noah on Singkep Island.
Encik Walek and Encik Noah died on Lalang Island and was buried there.

In ancient times, there was a cannon in the yard of Encik Walek and Encik Noah’s house, a husband and wife who lived near the Leafy Stone Beach.
The wife is named Encik Walek, while the husband is named Encik Noah.
Because the cannon was considered disturbing, Encik Walek asked her husband to move the cannon to another place.
Encik Noah tried to move the cannon, but failed because it was not strong to lift the cannon alone.
Encik Noah who failed to lift the cannon thought hard looking for ways to move the cannon.
On the other hand, Encik Walek always reminds Encik Noah to immediately move the cannon.
Because too often he was reminded by his wife, Encik Noah became angry.
He told his wife, “ If it’s capable, you’re the one who moved the cannon, ” said Encik Noah.
The relationship between Encik Walek and Encik Noah became less harmonious due to cannon problems that could not be moved.
One day, Encik Walek saw the wooden mortar that he had thrown behind the house raised by fungi or mushrooms growing.
Encik Walek thinks, of course this is a cherry mushroom, because the growth can make the mortar lift.
Encik Walek then takes the mushroom, then cooked into vegetables.
After being cooked into vegetables, the mushrooms were immediately eaten by Encik Walek as rice side dishes.
After eating fungus vegetables or mushroom vegetables, Encik Walek feels himself has great strength until he can move heavy objects.
Encik Walek went down to the yard, he tried to lift the cannon that made him and the husband had a fight.
Encik Walek also managed to lift the cannon.
The cannon was clamped under the armpit, then tracked in one place not far from his house.
The base of the cannon sticks into the ground, with its snout facing the sky so it is called an upright cannon.
When that happened, Encik Noah was not at home.
When Encik Noah returned, he was very surprised to see that the cannon had disappeared from his yard.
Encik Noah asked his wife where the cannon went in their yard.
Encik Walek said, it was he who moved the cannon and showed where the cannon was placed.
Encik Noah was very surprised to see the cannon tracked on the ground.
He felt ashamed, because so far he had not managed to move the cannon, he even underestimated the ability of his wife.
Encik Noah apologized to Encik Walek and their relationship returned harmoniously.
Encik Walek never opened a secret about him who had eaten magic fungus.
