The dragon boat race in Tanjungpinang is a tourist attraction

The Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar) of Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands (Kepri), appreciates the dragon boat race, which is held by Chinese residents, because it can become a tourist attraction in the area.

Head of the Tanjungpinang Disbudpar Muhammad Nazri said the dragon boat race could have a positive impact, not only for the Chinese community, but also to enrich cultural diversity and increase tourism.

“This dragon boat has become a cultural attraction, which is able to attract domestic and foreign tourists,” he said in Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, Friday.

Therefore, he said, the Tanjungpinang City Government really supports the community’s efforts to preserve Chinese cultural heritage.

He hopes that through this event the younger generation will continue to learn and maintain this cultural heritage passed down from generation to generation.

“Traditions like this have historical, artistic value and add to Tanjungpinang’s cultural and tourism treasures,” said Nazri.

The dragon boat race event was held in the afternoon in the sea waters in front of Pelantar III Tanjungpinang. The activity was held for three days from June to July.

The participants’ actions were greeted enthusiastically with cheers and thunderous applause from the public who witnessed the competition directly. The audience in attendance came from various ages, from children to adults.

Each dragon boat is filled with 12 participants, consisting of ten rowers, one drummer and one person controlling the direction of the boat.

One of the residents of Kilometer 7 Tanjungpinang, Titin (55) admitted that he deliberately came to Pelantar III to watch the dragon boat attraction with his two children.
