Raja Abdul Ghani Jami Mosque
The Raja Abdul Ghani Jami’ Mosque is the oldest mosque in Karimun Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri). This mosque was built by Raja Abdul Ghani bin Raja Idris bin Raja Haji Fisabillilah.
According to the official website of the Riau Islands Culture Service (Disbud), this mosque was built in 1823. Because it was built by King Abdul Ghani, this mosque was named the Raja Abdul Ghani Jami’ Mosque.
However, recently, people often know this mosque better as the Buru Mosque, because it is located on Buru Island. This mosque is classified as medium sized.
The main room has an area of around 8m x 15m. The dome is supported by four pillars 5 meters high. It is not very large and the capacity is only around 100 worshipers.
However, the mosque management carried out renovations by building an outside terrace, with the aim of being able to accommodate more worshipers.
It is said that the architect of this mosque was a Chinese man, who had previously succeeded in building a temple not far from the mosque.
This can be proven by the existence of a cone-shaped tower, which at first glance is similar to the incense burning room in a temple. The ventilation holes are also made of blue jade and have typical Chinese carvings.
