In Karimun Regency, Riau Islands (Kepri), there is a legendary coffee shop called Kedai Kopi Simpang Raya, which has been established since 1947, or 2 years after Indonesia’s independence.

The owner of Simpang Raya Tavern, Dudi Hartono, said that his shop is a legacy from his family.

Initially the coffee shop was called Kedai Kopi Sejahtera. Then, the name was changed to Kedai Kopi Simpang Jaya.

However, people here know this restaurant better by the name Kedai Kopi Botan, which refers to the nickname of the owner.

Because it has been around for so long, it is not surprising that the existence of this coffee shop is also a witness to the history of Karimun Regency. Moreover, those who enjoy coffee and breakfast here are also officials and community leaders.

Every day, this shop is open from 04.30 WIB to 13.00 WIB. The owner deliberately opened the coffee shop before dawn. So that after morning prayers at the mosque, people can stop by the shop to enjoy breakfast.

As for the food menu, there are several very distinctive menus. One of them is Lontong thigh.

In the lontong thigh on the plate, topped with pieces of curry chicken thigh. Not only chicken thighs can be ordered, but also breasts and wings, with varying prices.

The best menu is lontong, a combination of Minang and Malay cuisine. The taste can be mixed, especially since one portion of lontong includes kriuk-kriuk potato sauce and ikan bilis sprinkled on top. Plus a thick curry sauce which contains pieces of green beans, pumpkin and tofu.
