The Batam Center Grand Mosque building will be revitalized by the Batam City Government. This project will be carried out by PT Adhi Karya as the winner of the tender. However, this revitalization project will really change the face of this iconic mosque in Batam City.
The Great Batam Center Mosque or also known as the Batam Grand Mosque is a mosque that has a dome with a unique shape that has a rectangular pyramid or pyramid-like design. This mosque is equipped with a 66 meter high minaret.
So far, the Batam Center Grand Mosque can accommodate around 3,500 worshipers. However, if the mosque is full, the courtyard and outside of the mosque can also be used to accommodate worshipers with a capacity of up to 15,000 worshipers.
The dome, which is shaped like a rectangular pyramid or like a pyramid, is a characteristic of Malay culture. This mosque, which was founded in 1999, was designed by Achmad Noeman, an architect who also designed the Salman Mosque at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in Bandung City.
The current iconic design of the Batam Center Grand Mosque will remain a memory because it will soon be revitalized.
Apart from the architecture, the main attraction of the Batam Grand Mosque is the fountain pool which can be used for ablution. This fountain pool flows in a tub of plants which creates a cool sound of gurgling water.

Major changes to the mosque courtyard
Head of the Batam City Creation and Spatial Planning (CKTR) Department, Suhar, explained that there would be many changes in the mosque courtyard.
In stages, the revitalization process will start from work on the mosque courtyard and construction of a 2-story basement and continue with adding to the mosque building.
“The courtyard of the mosque changed a lot. Then we built a basement 2 floors down. Simultaneously, adding to the mosque building, changing the structure of the old mosque,” he explained.
During the construction of this project, the perimeter of the mosque will be fenced. Apart from that, his party will build a temporary mosque room. Where the location is close to the current mosque canteen. “So the 5 daily prayers, Friday prayers and main services will be held in the temporary mosque,” he said.
