The Telaga Biru & Desert Bintan
The Telaga Biru Sand Desert is in Busung Hamlet, Tanjung Uban District, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province.
It is located about 45 minutes by land from RHF Tanjungpinang airport and from Tanjung Pinang port.
When visiting this tourist spot, tourists feel as if they are in the Middle East.
As far as the eye can see there is only a stretch of white sand, blue water lakes like an oasis, and the scorching hot sun.
It is unexpected that this desert was previously a bauxite sand mining area which has now hardened like coral. Mining has been stopped for a long time since the New Order during President Soeharto’s reign.
For decades it was just abandoned, the excavated depressions filled with rainwater which over time turned into a blue lake of water.
Then the local community began to manage this place as a tourist attraction. After being opened for tourism, the Telaga Biru desert was busy with tourists.
